Finnish translation of Sven Bjerstedts research about the composer Einar Swan

book cover

Some years ago, Sven Bjerstedt researched the forgotten Finnish American musician and composer Einar Swan (1903–40) who wrote the immortal song, “When Your Lover Has Gone”.

Bjerstedt published an 80-page biography )and participated in one-hour TV and radio documentaries on Einar Swan.

Recently, Finland’s former prime minister Esko Aho translated Bjerstedt’s Swan biography into Finnish and included it in the book Sinivalkoisia säikeitä tähtilipun alla (“Blue and white threads under the star-spangled banner”, by Esko Aho, Sven Bjerstedt, and Matti Laipio, Verbatim 2025). Apart from Einar Swan, the book also presents the careers of Finnish American jazz musicians Sylvester Ahola and Wäinö Kauppi, as well as Franklin D. Roosevelt’s political consultant Emil Hurja.
