Bachelor’s Programme in Dramatic Writing

KGDSK | Degree of Bachelor of Fine Arts | 180 Credits

We offer a four-year artistic Bachelor's programme in dramatic writing to which three to four students are admitted every second year.

The programme is aimed at individuals with a great passion for writing and storytelling, who want to work as playwrights in close contact with actors. Applicants do not need to have experience in playwriting specifically, but extensive experience in writing is required.

The training focuses mainly on writing for the theatre but also for other media such as film, TV and podcasts. You will get the opportunity to do both an internship in a theatre and to have your degree work performed as a show.

The programme consists of six compulsory semesters, which lay the foundations for dramatic writing, and two optional supplementary semesters. The first elective semester consists of an internship in a theatre focusing on the work of the playwright, while the second elective semester consists of a playwriting project in collaboration with a professional director and students from the acting programme.

Teaching is in Swedish. There may be teaching in other Scandinavian languages and in English by guest teachers such as dramaturges and artistic directors.

A significant part of the school's work is the national and international perspective, where study trips, participation in theatre festivals as well as exchanges with other schools are part of the education. The programme also has close collaborations with Malmö's rich theatre scene.
