The courses focus on artistic practice, reflections and sustainable artistic entrepreneurship. The aim is to educate artists who critically engage with, and respond to, the contemporary world. During the courses, you work to conceptualise your artistic ideas and are given opportunities to work interdisciplinarily with text, sound and video. In addition, the relationship with the audience is explored through interactive performing arts and site-specific performing arts practices.

Conceptual Performing Arts seeks to provide you with the tools to combine thought with practice and to create, understand and communicate performing arts that expand our understanding of theatre. The courses aim to introduce and contextualise concepts of artistic method, dramaturgical structures and concept development with the ambition to develop an artistic language of their own.

The examination of artistic practice is complemented by an in-depth study and discussion of aesthetic, political and social trends in contemporary art. The focus is on how activist and collaborative approaches can help change the role of art in society and create new sustainable communities in an artistic context.

The courses also offer an introduction to contemporary performance art, such as; expanded performance, research-based performance and durational performance, and study today's leading performing arts groups and artists in the field, such as Rimini Protokoll, Milo Rau / International Institute for Political Murder, SheShePop, Mette Ingvartsen and Nature Theatre of Oklahoma.

Entry requirements

SKÅL01 requires studies within conceptual performing arts of at least 90 credits or equivalent. SKÅL02 requires that you have completed SKÅL01 and SKÅK01 that you have completed SKÅL01 and SKÅL02.
