Esa Kirkkopelto research

From scenic bodies to actor´s dramaturgy

This year, my artistic research will focus on disseminating and sharpening the ideas that I have elaborated in a monograph published last year in Finnish (Logomimesis: Tutkielma esiintyvästä ruumiista, Tutkijaliitto 2020), where I outline a theory of the performing body. According the argument of that book, the scenic bodies the performing bodies bring forth are non-anthropomorphic, transformative and virtual entities, that condition our understanding and experience of both corporality and language. I will organize online research expositions at the occasion of academic events and write articles on the topic.

Keywords: artistic research, performance philosophy, deconstruction, phenomenology, structuralism, posthumanism

The second half of the year will be dedicated in particular to the preparation of an actor´s training manual, where I and Prof.  Pauliina Hulkko (University of Tampere) sum up the practical outcomes of the research we have conducted together since 2008, concerning the contemporary modes of physical actor training.

The Keyword of that latter project will be actor´s dramaturgy.
