Thinking with Performance: Researchbased Aesthetics in Times of Conflict and Crisis
In my artistic research I focus on how research-based performance creates new spaces for thinking. My research, as well as my artistic work, circles around questions on embodied re-enactments of lived experience, asymmetric power structures, memory, and autobiographical performance writing.
My current research project is to rethink, edit end publish my PhD-dissertation Thinking with Performance: Research based Aesthetics in Times of Conflict and Crisis, in which I examine how to critically think with performance. In the writing I bring together different sorts of research material, including reflections on my artistic work process, the production of two research-based performances, analyses of artworks, and readings of theory. It thus points to how the different acts of thinking affect each other in artistic and theoretical practice.
My aim with rethinking the PhD project is to question and sharpen what performance research is. Further, I want to discuss how to create sustainable performance spaces for thinking in which concepts such as co-reflection, co-creation and co-sensing are important for the democratic and political potential. My research practice is both performance, performance writing and theoretical writing and it is in between these fields that the critical thinking and making arise.
