About our research

The Research Collegium, gathers all research-related activities at Malmö Theatre Academy and carries responsibility of the planning, implementation and development. The milieu of the Collegium aims at providing a collegial meeting place for researchers, artists and pedagogues in scenic arts, with a special focus on inter- and transdisciplinary collaborations both in regional and international setting.

The program of the Collegium consists of symposia, workshops, guest lectures, round tables, work in progress seminars of the doctoral candidates and defenses. The activities primarily take place at Inter Arts Centre, a platform for artistic experimentation and research at the Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts. The events are announced in our calendar. Some of them are fully public, some require enrolment. The Collegium is led by a steering committee for research and development.

Profile and vision

The artistic research and development work driven by the doctoral students, teachers, postdoc and senior researchers at Malmö Theatre Academy have a common goal: we aim at conducting research in performing arts, and to propose new knowledge, forms, methods and techniques, through which performing arts would better meet the needs and hopes of our times.

We want to create an dynamic academic milieu, where artistic creation, academic research and education feed each other in a critical dialogue, where new knowledge is born out of focused and patient collaborations, and where people committed to the research in performing arts can meet on an equal basis and feel welcome.

Doctoral education

In the Research collegium, the doctoral training takes place in a peer community together with postdoctoral and senior researchers. The courses, seminars and practicums are programmed and designed together to serve the needs of the doctoral projects conducted. Two of our doctoral students currently perform their studies as part of Lund University Agenda 2030 Graduate school, an interdisciplinary doctoral program in sustainable development.
