DESCRIPTION:Kontakt: sylvia.lysko@iac.lu.se\n\nIn connection with the 75% s
eminar of her doctoral studies\, PhD candidate Iury Salustiano Trojaborg p
resents the following work in progress: the sound instllation&nbsp\;Dentro
  do Mar tem Rio (Within the Sea\, a River).Opening hours:&nbsp\;Monday\, 2
7 October 2025\, at 14:00–16:00: Opening of the sound installationTuesda
 y\, 28 October 2025\, at 12:00–14:00 &amp\; 15:00–16:00Location: Red R
 oom\, Inter Arts Center\, Bergsgatan 29\, 214 22 Malmö.The sound installa
tion is bilingual (Portuguese / English). Duration: ca. 30 min (loop).Duri
ng an ethnographic fieldwork trip conducted in June in Brazil in two citie
 s 4000 kilometers apart\, Rio de Janeiro (Iury’s hometown) and Manaus\,
capital of the state of Amazonas\, Iury carried out interviews with the el
dest generation of her aunts and uncles&nbsp\;in order to continue the inv
estigation she has been carrying on along her doctoral studies on ancestra
lity\, migration and the ever-present effects of colonization in Brazilian
contemporary society.&nbsp\;This sound installation is the final phase of
her ongoing PhD project entitled On Ancestrality and Regeneration: Perfor
ming Decolonial Journeys. In this phase\, Iury is exploring a specific dime
nsion of her maternal grandmother’s migration journey which has thus far
been overlooked: the experience of those of her children who were left be
hind after she fled to the suburbs of Brazil’s then capital city Rio de
Janeiro in 1945\, amidst the Second World War.Having sought and received v
alidation funds from LU Innovation\, Iury was able to join forces with Dan
ish composer and sound artist Kristian Hverring and Brazilian set designer
Mariana Ribas Coimbra to design a space composed by a number voices and s
ounds of different bodies of water.&nbsp\;The ambient sounds of Brazil pla
y a key role in contextually framing the persons being interviewed. As int
erludes\, the sound of the ocean waves and the rush of the river dissolve
the speaking voices\, engulfing them in the rushing white noise of water i
n motion. This project aims at developing an innovative method entitled Anc
estral Dramaturgies that contributes to the expansion of the concept of so
cially engaged arts\, a practice that is collaborative\, often participato
ry\, and involves people and their personal experiences as mediums of arti
stic research. The doctoral studies of Iury are conducted at the Malmö The
atre Academy\, and also within the framework of Lund University's&nbsp\;Gr
aduate School Agenda 2030.Original Imagery: Iury Salustiano Trojaborg\, Jo
